PTTGV Training Fund

The Piano Tuners & Technicians Guild of Victoria has established the PTTGV Training Fund — a long-term investment in the professional development of our members and the wider piano service industry.

Piano technology is a craft that deepens over a career, not just a trade you learn once. The Training Fund exists because we believe experienced technicians deserve ongoing support — and because the whole industry benefits when our members keep growing.

What the Fund Supports

The Training Fund can be used for a wide range of professional development activities, including:

  • Advanced training in piano tuning, regulation, repair, and restoration
  • Accredited courses and formal tuition
  • ARPT & Guild certification exams and preparation
  • Specialist workshops with Australian and international presenters
  • Travel to attend training, conventions, or technical instruction
  • Mid-career skill advancement and specialisation

How Much Is Available?

Individual awards are generally up to $1,000 per application, with exceptions available at the committee's discretion.

The fund is financed through an annual allocation of $50 per Guild member — a shared investment in the whole profession. Unallocated funds roll over to the following year, meaning the pool can grow over time.

How to Apply

Applications are reviewed twice yearly, with deadlines of 31 March and 30 September each year.

To apply, eligible members must submit:

  1. A completed application form
  2. A Statement of Purpose (up to 500 words) explaining how the training will benefit your career as a piano technician
  3. Supporting documents — such as course details, registration confirmation, and travel or accommodation estimates if applicable

Decisions are made within 30 days of each deadline, with successful applicants notified by 30 April and 31 October respectively.

Funds are paid directly to the training provider, or reimbursed to the applicant on receipt of proof of payment.

Who Is Eligible?

The fund is open to current financial members of the PTTGV who are actively working to develop their skills. Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • A clear professional development objective
  • Relevance of the training to their work as a piano technician
  • A commitment to applying and sharing what they learn

Preference is given to applicants who demonstrate financial need and a willingness to share their learnings with the Guild community. The fund particularly aims to support early- and mid-career technicians, though all financial members are encouraged to apply.

After Your Training

Recipients are asked to submit a brief report within 60 days of completing their funded activity. The report should cover a summary of the training, key skills or learnings acquired, and how you plan to apply them in your work. This helps share knowledge across the Guild community and strengthens the profession as a whole.

Important Dates

  • Application deadlines: 31 March and 30 September each year
  • Notification of outcome: by 30 April and 31 October respectively
